Manual Trigger Point Therapy 2

Required for MTT certification - the perfect course program for PTAs and bodyworkers!

Description

The MTT-2 (Lower Body) course features an introductory lecture on pain science. Theory components (primarily through home-study video modules) feature the clinical aspects of myofascial pain, peripheral and central sensitization, the etiology and scientific basis of myofascial pain, and manual trigger point therapy. During the in-person weekend, many lower body muscles commonly associated with myofascial symptoms in clinical practice will be addressed. Students will review each muscle's anatomy, function, precise palpation, and manual therapy techniques.

NOTE: The MTT course program consist of three courses, with the certification exams on the last day of MTT-3.

Course Objectives

  • Identify the historical and current literature regarding myofascial pain
  • Describe optimal musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology and the role of the sensory, motor, and autonomic nervous systems; and to differentiate sub-optimal function
  • Describe normal pain mechanisms; reception, transmission, and modulation
  • Describe the aberrant neurophysiology of peripheral and central sensitization
  • Describe the contribution of myofascial trigger points to soft tissue pain and dysfunction
  • Describe the biochemical environment of the trigger point
  • Identify the various potential causes of myofascial trigger point formation
  • Describe the various mechanisms that perpetuate myofascial trigger points
  • Describe the position of primary or secondary trigger point involvement in many common conditions like osteoarthritis, low back pain, and other regional pain syndromes
  • Demonstrate the highest standards of palpation, applicable to most soft tissue abnormalities
  • Demonstrate the detection and full de-activation of myofascial trigger points
  • Describe the use of a variety of adjunct reinforcement techniques; myofascial release, pin and stretch, opposing thumb glides, heat, stretch, muscle play, and movement therapies to reinforce the deactivation of these noxious points and return the client to full function

The live Intramuscular Electrical Stimulation (IMES) course is a practical, hands-on course designed for clinicians who already completed the online IMES course. During the course, students will review and practice recommended treatment approaches using IMES for patients with neck, back, arm (epicondylalgia), hand, low back, pelvic, hip, and leg pain and dysfunction, and for muscle strengthening and motor recovery.

More Information

Intramuscular electrical stimulation (IMES) is increasingly used in clinical practice to modify or enhance the effects of needling interventions. Yet, no published guidelines exist to assist clinicians in their clinical reasoning for selecting stimulation parameters or determining adequate dosage for the use of IMES for any musculoskeletal condition. This online course will teach clinicians how to safely and effectively implement IMES into practice based on the most recent scientific evidence.
