Dry Needling For Pelvic Pain

An advanced DN course that introduces the concepts of trigger point dry needling as it relates to the muscles of the pelvis and perineum.

Description

This 3-day course will introduce the concepts of trigger point dry needling as it relates to the muscles of the pelvis and perineum. The course will integrate pain science research with anatomy and biomechanics of the pelvis and pelvic floor. Students will learn techniques to safely perform trigger point dry needling to the region. They will also learn clinical patterns that may facilitate improved clinical reasoning as to when and where to utilize trigger point dry needling. Muscle groups include the hip abductors, adductors, flexors, abdominal muscles, urogenital triangle, levator ani, and coccygeus. Students will review the anatomy, function, and dry needling techniques for each muscle.

The Dry Needling for Pelvic Pain course is designed with the pelvic health practitioner in mind. Myopain Seminars values the unique skillset of pelvic floor clinicians and is proud to offer a dry needling course that features internal palpation and the effective dry needling treatment of internal pelvic floor muscles. Attending this course will improve the proficiency of dry needling skills in these providers while maintaining focus on the muscles most commonly treated in people with chronic pelvic pain and other types of pelvic floor dysfunction.

This is a three-day course, including a practical examination on the third day.

* Maryland PT's - If you are a physical therapist practicing in Maryland, you will need 40 theoretical hours and 40 practical training hours before you complete your application to use Dry Needling to the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. The Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners requires “in person … face-to-face session; or in real time through electronic means that allow for simultaneous interaction between the instructor and the participants.”  When you have completed Dry Needling 1, 2 & 3 with Myopain Seminars, you will be short 6.25 hours of theory. (You will have met the 40-hour practical requirement) Myopain Seminars offers webinars for theoretical hours. However, you could also choose to take Dry Needling for Pelvic Floor. This course provides 11 hours of theory applicable to the Dry Needling requirements.

Prerequisites

You must have successfully completed a dry needling course. For this course, we accept any accredited dry needling course, even from other course providers.  Registrants must submit a course certificate or other proof of having completed a DN course. Please submit the certificate of the course you took, with "DNPP Documentation" in the subject line.

Previous experience with pelvic floor physical therapy, including internal work, is preferred but not required. This course does include some internal work, so participants should feel comfortable with these skills.

The live Intramuscular Electrical Stimulation (IMES) course is a practical, hands-on course designed for clinicians who already completed the online IMES course. During the course, students will review and practice recommended treatment approaches using IMES for patients with neck, back, arm (epicondylalgia), hand, low back, pelvic, hip, and leg pain and dysfunction, and for muscle strengthening and motor recovery.

More Information

Intramuscular electrical stimulation (IMES) is increasingly used in clinical practice to modify or enhance the effects of needling interventions. Yet, no published guidelines exist to assist clinicians in their clinical reasoning for selecting stimulation parameters or determining adequate dosage for the use of IMES for any musculoskeletal condition. This online course will teach clinicians how to safely and effectively implement IMES into practice based on the most recent scientific evidence.
