Upper Quadrant Dry Needling 2

Required for Upper Quadrant Dry Needling Certification. The Upper Quadrant Dry Needling 2 course features lectures on the scientific basis and etiology of myofascial pain and peripheral and central sensitization. This course used to be known as the OT/CH DN-2 course.

Description

The Upper Quadrant Dry Needling 2 course features lectures on the scientific basis and etiology of myofascial pain and peripheral and central sensitization. This course will include many muscles commonly addressed in clinical practice, such as the supraspinatus, levator scapulae, posterior cervicals (including cervical multifidi), thoracic and lumbar multifidi, quadratus lumborum, pectoralis minor, coracobrachialis, rhomboids (serratus posterior superior, middle trapezius), short thumb muscles, interossei (palmar/dorsal), lumbricals, abductor digiti minimi, flexor digiti minimi and opponens digiti minimi, sternocleidomastoid, and scalenes. Students will review the anatomy, function, and dry needling techniques for each muscle.

Pre-Course videos will be provided after registration. If you prefer to review the presentations in a live webinar, you can register for the DN-2 Webinar.

Course Objectives

- Name at least four anatomical structures to avoid when needling the scalene muscles

- Name at least four anatomical structures to avoid when needling the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

- Demonstrate three different dry needling approaches for the rhomboid, middle trapezius and pectoralis muscles

The live Intramuscular Electrical Stimulation (IMES) course is a practical, hands-on course designed for clinicians who already completed the online IMES course. During the course, students will review and practice recommended treatment approaches using IMES for patients with neck, back, arm (epicondylalgia), hand, low back, pelvic, hip, and leg pain and dysfunction, and for muscle strengthening and motor recovery.

More Information

Intramuscular electrical stimulation (IMES) is increasingly used in clinical practice to modify or enhance the effects of needling interventions. Yet, no published guidelines exist to assist clinicians in their clinical reasoning for selecting stimulation parameters or determining adequate dosage for the use of IMES for any musculoskeletal condition. This online course will teach clinicians how to safely and effectively implement IMES into practice based on the most recent scientific evidence.

In this hybrid (live and online) lecture, Jan Dommerholt will review the current scientific literature on myofascial pain and dry needling.
