Required for Occupational Therapy DN Certification. The Dry Needling for OTs/CHTs 2 (OTDN-2) course features several lectures about the scientific basis and etiology of myofascial pain and peripheral and central sensitization.
The Dry Needling for OTs/CHTs 2 (OTDN-2) course features lectures on the scientific basis and etiology of myofascial pain and peripheral and central sensitization. This course will include many muscles commonly addressed in clinical practice, such as the supraspinatus, levator scapulae, posterior cervicals (including cervical multifidi), thoracic and lumbar multifidi, quadratus lumborum, pectoralis minor, coracobrachialis, rhomboids (serratus posterior superior, middle trapezius), short thumb muscles, interossei (palmar/dorsal), lumbricals, abductor digiti minimi, flexor digiti minimi and opponens digiti minimi, sternocleidomastoid, and scalenes. Students will review the anatomy, function, and dry needling techniques for each muscle.

- Name at least four anatomical structures to avoid when needling the scalene muscles
- Name at least four anatomical structures to avoid when needling the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
- Demonstrate three different dry needling approaches for the rhomboid, middle trapezius and pectoralis muscles
