IMES

The live Intramuscular Electrical Stimulation (IMES) course is a practical, hands-on course designed for clinicians who already completed the online IMES course. During the course, students will review and practice recommended treatment approaches using IMES for patients with neck, back, arm (epicondylalgia), hand, low back, pelvic, hip, and leg pain and dysfunction, and for muscle strengthening and motor recovery.

Intramuscular electrical stimulation (IMES) is increasingly used in clinical practice to modify or enhance the effects of needling interventions. Yet few published guidelines exist to assist clinicians in their clinical reasoning for selecting stimulation parameters or determining an adequate IMES dose for musculoskeletal conditions. This online course, updated in 2026, will teach clinicians how to safely and effectively implement IMES into practice based on the most recent scientific evidence.
